Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (November 24, 2017)

Welcome to Inbox.  For those new to WFE, Inbox is our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our email inbox. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  This is the news that has grabbed our attention this week.

________

Benriach

The Speyside distillery of Benriach has announced the release of a rare peated single malt - the Benriach Authenticus 30 years old. Benriach is one of the few distilleries on Speyside to produce peated spirit for a short period each year and they have been since 1972. Therefore, old peaty Speyside whiskies are very scarce. The Authenticus 30 years old is bottled at 46% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. It will be available shortly in selected specialist whisky retailers. The price was not revealed in the press release.

"At the BenRiach Distillery we pride ourselves on our unconventional distilling philosophy, creating unpeated, peated and triple distilled malt whisky. As the oldest expression in our peated range, we believe Authenticus 30 years old will impress with its distinguished profile."
Rachel Barrie - Master Blender at Benriach.

Laphroaig
The Islay distillery of Laphroaig has announced a special bottling that will be exclusive for its Friends of Laphroaig members - the Laphroaig Cairdeas 15 years old. Cairdeas translates as 'friendship' from Gaelic and celebrates that via the FoL membership, which is free to join via www.laphroaig.com.

The whisky was distilled in 2002 and has been matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, which were selected by Distillery Manager John Campbell, and is recreation of the popular 15 years old expression that was discontinued in 2009. The first 200 bottles have been signed by Campbell. It is released at 43% ABV and each bottle will cost £90. To purchase and for more information, please click here.

The Whisky Exchange

Leading spirits retailer The Whisky Exchange have announced that they are taking on the Black Friday buying frenzy with an exclusive bottling that will only be available on their website. Black Friday is a 16 years old Speyside single malt from an un-named family-owned distillery, which has been matured in a single ex-sherry butt. This cask has yielded just 582 bottles and it is released at the natural cask strength of 54.6% ABV. Each bottle will cost £59.95 and they are expected to sell out fast.
